The Upper Balaton, (Balaton-felvidék) territory unites the wine growing hills in three districts, namely the Kál basin, the Balatonederics – Lesence district and the Cserszeg district, the area around Hévíz and Keszthely. Vine grows here in highly varied soil conditions (limestone, clay and brown forest soil) and Olaszrizling occupies three fourth of the growth area. Additional important varieties include Chardonnay and Szürkebarát. The duly esteemed Hungarian National variety, Cserszegi F?szeres, was developed through selection in Keszthely. |
