Zala wine territory is the official name today of the territory/area lying west of the lake. The territory comprises two districts: called the Mura side and Zala side districts. The terrain is largely made of soft slopes with relatively cooler climate and more rain. Although red varieties are considerably represented here, rather the whites growing with rich acids have proved so far their qualities. Especially fine wines are made from Szürkebarát and Tramini, mainly around Muraszemenye – Murarátka.
