The Villány territory has fuelled the renaissance of wine-making in the whole country. The lime based soil as well as the high geothermic potentials along with the southern position and the high number of sunny hours all contribute to the creation of world class wines on the territory. All it needs to natural endowments is the expertise of dedicated wine-makers, and as the territory has never been short of them Villány now produces most beautiful wines every year. Among the dominant red varieties Portugieser, Merlot, Cabernet, and Kékfrankos whites are represented by Olaszrizling and Chardonnay. Excellent wines are combined with such tourist attractions as the cellar rows in Villánykövesd and Palkonya in the area.
