The Hajós-Baja wine territory lies on the western side of the so-called Bácskai löszhát (Bácska loess hills). The region owes its special character to the fact that German settlers brought in the XVIII century developed the viticulture established here by an earlier Southern Slav population and created finely ordered nice wine villages. The most spectacular of these are the Hajós and Nemesnádudvar wine villages. Celebrations of Saint Urban, held to be Patron of wine growers had already attracted large crowds decades ago. The atmospheric cellar rows of Hajós boast with the curiosity that noble mould feels at home here just like in Tokaj and has equally beneficial effect on the climate there. Specialities like ice wine (Eiswein) are also produced in the territory.
