Mátra territory
Services »

The centre of the Mátra territory is Gyöngyös, reigning over the vineyards on the southern slopes of the highest mountain range in the country. This is the largest of our mountain wine territories with the strongest scented white wines of the country. The Mátra protects the territory from extreme northern cold; the climate is continental with a great variety of soil types. Varieties of wine are dominated with whites here, most prominently Rizlingszilváni, Muscat Ottonel, Olaszrizling, Chardonnay and Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris), Hárslevel? and Leányka. Red wines are only represented by Kékfrankos in significant amount. A historic interest of the territory is the cavity in one of the cellars in Abasár where Prince Sámuel Aba (c. 990-1000 – 10444) was originally buried according to local traditions.
