The Eger wine growing territory
Services »

The Eger wine growing territory is among the most renowned ones in the country first and foremost for its red varieties with Bikavér leading on. Eger is an enormous asset of Hungary’s viticulture always in the forefront of red wines with the best growth areas only recently planted making difficult to define actual limitations of the terroir. Cellars cut in rhyolitic tuff provide excellent conditions for the adequate aging and development of full-bodied velvety red wines in their barrels. Three wine-makers from the Eger territory have been awarded lately with the honorary title „Wine-maker of the Year”, an important acknowledgement for the work done in the area. As for white wine, Eger brings the experience of fresh, aromatic Leányka and that of the heavier, exciting Chardonnay while red wines are primarily made from Kékfrankos, Kadarka and Cabernet varieties.

One of the best known Wine Tourist Attractions of the area is the famed cellar row in Szépasszonyvölgy emanating a historic atmosphere. It is absolutely worthwhile visiting Árnyékszala, Ver?szala K?poros cellars, or Egerszalók and Noszvaj, where you can taste truly characteristic wines of the terrain. The making of Bikavér has been officially controlled since 1997, which contributes to the growing prestige of the brand.
