Pannonhalma territory
Services »

The centre of the Pannonhalma territory is Pannonhalma, where Benedictine monks settled and founded their spectacular monastery and started growing wine in the year 996 AD.

As of yore, the monastery represents quality viticulture in the area. In addition to the winery of the monastery, several independent wineries produce wine of excellent quality in the area. The unique tourist attraction provided by the Benedictine winery in the territory finds its true match in the Kajárpéc cellar row. The most widespread varieties here include Olaszrizling, Rizlingszilváni, Rajnai Rizling and Tramini. In earlier days Pannonhalma produced mainly full-bodied oxidative wines but most recently fresh reductive wines rich in aroma and flavour have become characteristic. The thousand-year-old Arch-Monastery in Pannonhalma is as old as the Hungarian State and has been part of World Heritage since 1996 offering the unmatched wealth of scientific and artistic monuments of a millennia.
